Looking Within

At the beginning of each year people make resolutions. Sometimes these do last, sometimes the willpower is lost when the year gets old (so to speak).

People make resolutions around summer too. This is a time for  people to go to the beach, travel, visit family members and relatives and party (according to trends). Unlike New Year’s Resolutions these are not about inner self improvement but rather improvement of the physical appearance.

Most, if not all of us, get caught up in the moment at this time. We make resolutions – just like everyone else – then forget about them -just like everyone else. Sometimes we do catch up on ourselves. Other times…we don’t. There are some of us who will find time to think, review and analyse our actions and decide to fix the problems. Others of us need a push, a wake up call (like the ones I need to start responding toπŸ˜„) to propel us in the right direction.

That’s just it! We’re humans! WE ARE HUMANS

Take a second to savour your humanity because trust me, there’s nothing else we can be…but humans.

What am I trying to say exactly? You don’t need to make resolutions? You shouldn’t make resolutions? Resolutions are only words?

                                         NO!!!!!!
You are the person who decides that. What I believe is that we should make resolutions to be the best us that we can be EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Goals can’t be achieved with one big step! Stop beating yourself up about that.

I repeat…SAVOUR YOUR HUMANITY.

Is it that you should be happy that you’ll mess up? Or that you’ll forget important things? Or that you’ll follow the crowd sometimes?

Bah…Those are pretty far from being considered accomplishments. What we should enjoy about it is as simple as this…

We Have Control. We Can Change Things. We Get Second Chances…  Everyday that we get up is a new opportunity to do great things.

As I stated earlier, it can’t be done in 1 Big Step. We’ll most likely fall and hurt ourselves…that would be discouraging😩. What we all realize (whether or not we’re builders) is that no house is built from the top down nor any stair made of 1 Big Step.

We have to go up each tiny step before making it to the top.

This is a lesson for resolutions.

  • Have big dreams…great goals…Goals that scare you.
  • Make a daily plan on how to achieve them. Set a reminder if you must.
  • Write them down.
  • Today I will be the most awesome me ever. I will not…(or at least I’ll try my best not to…). I will…But even if I fail today,  I’m human so I’ll try again

You don’t have to make a resolution now.You don’t have to do it just because everyone else is doing it (something adults tell teens a lot πŸ˜‰). Make it personal. Make it something you’re passionate about and won’t give up on.

The most important thing to remember (yes, apart from the fact that we’re humans) is that not everyone needs to know what your goals are. We can resolve to do something within ourselves. Sometimes we should surprise others…Let them see that we’re trying to put our best life forward without us saying it.

Happy 2017. Bless up…πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Always your

What is your worth?

Being placed in certain situations offers various opportunities. I proved it when I was placed in a particular teacher’s 4th form class. He’s an amazing teacher who cares about the development of his students all round. Recently, he issued a challenge;he posed two questions and gave us some time to consider our answers (gave us until April actually).

The questions were:

1. What is your worth?

2. How do you measure your worth? Are you undervaluing or overvaluing yourself? What standards do you use to measure your worth? Do you have a price tag?

Question 2 has a lot of parts as you may realise. I believe it shows the importance of this one question in our lives. I’ve made so many attempts at answering this question and it was when I wasn’t thinking about an answer that I really got one.

I’m worth nothing without God. He gives me life, health, strength and enables me to use my knowledge. If my life is not completely in His hands, I have no life.

I believe I’m only worth as much as I give back to the universe. Life is a cycle and whatever we do with the little we have will be repaid.

I thought I was a perfectly sociable and approachable human being, until today. I think this goes to show that you never know yourself well enough – your opinions of yourself are most likely biased. So through this question I have also learned that I need to smile more, say “hello” to a few more people and care more.

Destiny can be kind – more often then not. It’s up to us to give back to the world that gives so much to us.I don’t think we have “no more to give“until we die. Each breath of life that we take, shows just how much potential there is within us to give back.

I don’t believe a person’s worth should be measured by anything material. Material things age and fade with time. They will all disappear someday. What matters is what is within – our values and beliefs, love, compassion, faithfulness. We can not be shallow human beings and die happily. True happiness comes from making others happy and if I’m not making others feel worthy, happy, needed then my life has no value.

We may seem insignificant or unworthy to everyone else, however, our Heavenly Father has made each of us special. The very hairs of our head are numbered !!! Whatever man may think is nothing compared to the King of the World’s opinion.

Being worthy should be your individual feeling. You may be unknown, ignored or probably even slandered, but it’s up to you to know your individual worth and act like it. Things are treated according to what they are and their value.

A diamond is given a space of importance and is protected while a stainless steel spoon is not given much thought. If you believe that you are a diamond, act like it! If you act like a stainless steel spoon, you’ll be treated like a spoon.

In this world you must demand good if it is what you desire. It is much easier for someone to lose or to have no respect for you than it is to gain respect. Yes, we should not value ourselves based on the world’s opinions but we should consider who we are, whose we are and what we are.

I guess that’s just it.

Forces at Work

Wow! It’s been a while since I shared anything with you guys, but recently a lot has been happening so I decided to share some of my thoughts with you all.

You know how sometimes you feel as if you have been placed in a position to make a difference? You believe that you can effect all the changes you wanted? At times like these, it doesn’t become apparent too you that there are instances when you are built up just to be broken down.

There is always some force working against good intentions. Even people from Bible days realised this. The apostle speaks of evil presenting itself when he seeks to do good. There always seems to be some distraction or barrier in the way of effecting good change.

As a child, I may not have many life experiences, however, I have sufficient reason behind my theory. Have you ever gotten in trouble for helping someone? If so, you know that’s the worst thing to get in trouble for and the worst way to get in trouble.

Why? Because this discourages good. It creates a feeling of unhappiness and anger that threatens the very existence of the good within. In moments like these, people pledge to never try to help someone again. The force wins in these situations, unless you are one of those persons who speaks based on current emotions but when faced with a situation your compassionate heart melts and you lose your resolve.

It is our responsibility to fight against the force(s). It is in our hands to effect change even when it seems as if the world is going to change us. We are so much stronger than we think. We can achieve so much more than we believe. We can fight the forces with good – remaining kind when all we want to do is yell, smiling and walking away instead of getting into an unnecessary argument.

Life can be as happy as we want it to be. We need not worry about how imperfect our world is, we can’t make this world into what we want. We can’t even change the people we love.what we can do is create a haven for others to enjoy – a happy place within ourselves that we can share with those around us. A place of goodness can be wherever we want it to be as long as we stand for right.

Love you guys. Thanks for your continued support. I know I’m a crazy writer and I abandon you for months on end, but to all faithful readers of Ntiniblog, thank you.

I hope to be able to write more often during the holidays.

My next post will be about my country and it’s people (at least, what I know about itπŸ˜‰)

I am Jamaican and I’ve realised that our rich culture is in two states – misunderstood and dying. I would like too reach all those I am able to with the truth of this gem in the Caribbean – my island home.

All bloggers who follow me and read my work, if I haven’t liked any of your work, I apologise. You guys are really great writers, however, I am usually off-line and read the summaries in my email. Your blogs are amazing, beautiful and frequent so I hope you understand that I love your work.

Drop questions on what you’d like to know about Jamaica so I can address everything in my next post.

Living It Up

We sometimes give no value to life. We live day to day without considering the small things:

  • The rainfall
  • The fresh air
  • Getting up each day
  • Our ability to move, speak and care for ourselves
  • Our family and friends
  • Each person’s uniqueness and abilities
  • The operations taking place in our bodies
  • The complexity of our brains

We take these ‘simple’ things for granted and go about each day “living it up”. Drowning ourselves in man-made inventions, enjoying technology and getting work done. As humans, we seek fulfilment and satisfaction from whatever we do.

Don’t you look at your life sometimes and think about what you are missing out?

It doesn’t have to be faith in a supernatural being, a friend, a family member, someone who tells you the truth…it may just be that although we should be one with nature, we are forgetting about the beauty around us.

Why not take a minute to breathe some of that nice fresh oxygen and feel it travel all the way into your lungs?

Drive out of the city and gaze at the sky. There is beauty even in the darkness.

Instead of viewing flowers through shop windows, why not plant your own garden or visit the natural garden around you.

There is so much in nature to be experienced and enjoyed. Yet, we choose to stay holed up in buildings, breathing in we the air being cooled by the air conditioner, using up WiFi to get in contact with a world that is waiting for you with open arms.

Why not step outside?

Look at the people around you differently. Try to see their stories in their eyes. Some people just need a smile from someone to feel alright.

The morals of society have broken down so much so that you can trust no one and have to watch your steps. Break out of your fear and flash a few smiles. Watch someone’s face break into a responding grin and feel your spirit glow from the inside out.

Life is too short and nature is too beautiful for us to not want to live it up.
